Exchange of traditional correspondence between elderly residents of nursing homes and volunteers can improve the mental state of the elderly. For this idea called "Letters to a Friend", first year nursing student Paulina Pergoł was awarded the prestigious Queen Silvia Nursing Award (QSNA).
Students of the Rzeszow University of Technology won a gold medal at SAE Aero Design East 2019 in the USA. This is the first ever gold medal for the science club EUROAVIA Rzeszów, awarded for technical presentation in the Micro class, reports the university spokeswoman Katarzyna Kadaj-Kuca.
Dr. Grażyna Barbara Dąbrowska from the Department of Genetics, Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the Nicolaus Copernicus University won the 10th edition of the "Innovation is a Woman" competition. The winner is a co-author of a preparation from fungi and other microorganisms, which accelerates the decomposition of plastics.
Professor Ryszard Tadeusiewicz, Dr. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, Dariusz Aksamit, Koło Miłośników Języka Papillon (Language Enthusiasts Club Papillon), Centrum Nowoczesności Młyn Wiedzy (Modernity Centre "Mill of Knowledge") and Paulina Łopatniuk are the winners of the Popularizer of Science 2018 competition organized by PAP - Science in Poland and the Ministry of Science.
Dr. Michał Grąt from the Medical University of Warsaw received the Young Scientist Medal at the Warsaw University of Technology. The distinction has been awarded in recognition of the development of new qualification criteria for liver transplantation and introducing them to clinical practice as the Warsaw Criteria.
Dr Eric Daniel Głowacki from Linköping University (Sweden) is this year`s winner of the Dream Chemistry Award. The jury awarded him for the project concerning catalysts for the production of clean energy from hydrogen peroxide. The winner received the prize of 10,000 euros.
A team of students from the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw won the 2018 ACM ICPC Central European Regional Contest (CERC). Students Jakub Boguta, Konrad Paluszek and Mateusz Radecki were the only ones to solve all 12 problems prepared by the organizers.
