Food made from insects can protect dogs from diseases resulting from food allergies. Diet-dependent enteropathy affects not only pure-breed dogs. A team of scientists led by Dr. Remigiusz Gałęcki, winner of the NCBR LIDER competition, is working on mealworm dog food and testing it in accordance with the principles of fact-based medicine.
Urbanization causes evolutionary changes in plants. An international team of researchers has demonstrated this on the example of white clover, which adapts in a similar way to the urban environment in different cities around the world. Professor Marta Szulkin from the Centre of New Technologies at the University of Warsaw is a co-author of the publication on this subject.
In the 1970s, 47 thousand birds per year died in fishing nets as a result of bycatch, in the 1980s and 1990s it was about 40,000 birds, and in the second decade of the 21st century - approx. 21 thousand birds, according to new data analyses concerning Polish waters. The scale of bird bycatch was previously seriously underestimated.
