'Professor Piotr Ponikowski, rector of the Wroclaw Medical University, was the best scientist in the field of medicine in Poland with a D 157 index in the 2024 Research.com ranking, taking 607th place in the world and advancing from 949 place two years ago', said the university’s press release.
'Rankings such as Research.com are a valuable tool for assessing scientific achievements and comparing the research contribution of various countries and institutions. Polish scientists are visible in fields such as cardiology, oncology and genetics. This visibility depends largely on a planned and consistently pursued path of scientific research. If we are to be visible in the world, we must carry out research in international groups and have a real influence on its shape and course. I would also not underestimate the role of luck - I have had a lot of it in my life', said Professor Ponikowski.
In the immunology category of the Research.com ranking, Professor Marek Jutel from the Wroclaw Medical University took 5th place in Poland with a D 60 index. Among scientists in this field in the world, he was ranked 2,447th.
A total of 70,665 scientists in the field of medicine were rated in the global Research.com ranking, including only 21 scientists from Poland. The second highest researcher from Poland in the ranking, Jan Lubiński from the Pomeranian Medical University, took 1,962nd place. The third, Jolanta Lissowska from the Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology is ranked 30,58th in the world.
The Research.com ranking is based on data gathered on November 21, 2023 from the Microsoft Academic Graph and Google Scholar. Three bibliometric indicators are taken into account: the h-index, the number of citations and the number of publications. (PAP)
