Students from the University of Gdansk won the Polish edition of the Enactus competition of projects that improve the living conditions of local communities. One of Gdańsk ideas is to create eco-markets, which give residents access to organic food.
As part of the competition, academic teams supported by business and academic advisors implement business projects to help the local community and contribute to the improvement of living conditions.
Winners of the Polish edition of Enactus are students from the University of Gdańsk. One of the projects they presented was the "Village in the City", which resulted in establishing three eco-markets in the Tri-City, generating over one million PLN turnover for the farmers with stands in the markets. The markets also benefit the residents who have access to healthy, unprocessed foods. The second Gdańsk project "Second Life of Waste", was also awarded by PKO BP as the most innovative project in this year\'s competition. Polish winners will present their best ideas in October at the Enactus World Cup, which will be held in Beijing.
Polish vice-champions in Enactus were students of the University of Łódź. Third place went to the School of Management and Banking in Poznań.
The award for a record enrolment of students and best practices for the promotion of the project at the university went to the team from Warsaw University of Life Sciences. The best Scientific Supervisor of the academic year 2013/2014 was Magdalena Wróbel of the University of Łódź. Also recognised were the practices of sponsors for the cooperation and contribution to the development of the program in Poland. The awards went to: Credit Agricole Bank Polska, GPEC Group and LOTOS Group.
In the competition finals, project were presented by nine teams representing the University of Gdańsk, University of Łódź, University of Warsaw, Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, University of Life Sciences in Wrocław, Poznań University of Technology, Łódź University of Technology, Warsaw University of Life Sciences and the School of Management and Banking in Poznań. In total, university teams presented nearly 30 projects carried out in the academic year 2013/14, dealing with various topics centred around business, environmental and social aspects.
Enactus is an international program that currently brings together more than 1.6 thousand universities in 36 countries, around 66 thousand students and nearly 400 companies.
