The Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw received more than 2 million euros from the Maria Skłodowska-Curie COFUND programme in Horizon 2020. The Institute will use these funds to launch international interdisciplinary doctoral studies in the field of nanomaterials.
"Doctoral program is designed for twenty two researchers from around the world, starting their careers. Polish researchers who have been abroad may also be accepted" - says Maria Sklodowska-Curie programme coordinator in Poland, Anna Wiśniewska from the National Contact Point for EU Research Programmes.
In the awarded project NaMeS ("Interdisciplinary NAnoscience School: from phenoMEnology to applicationS"), the Institute will work with 20 foreign partners: universities and research institutes, including the Radboud University (Netherlands), Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (Germany), University of North Texas (United States) and the University of Guelph (Canada).
"As part of the PhD program NaMeS, activities will be carried out aimed at understanding the phenomena occurring at the nanoscale and their application in industrial technology, medical diagnostics or environmental protection. It is expected that research conducted by doctoral students will have great potential for commercialisation" - noted Wiśniewska.
According to the National Contact Point for EU Research Programmes release sent to PAP, NaMeS is the third Polish project that will receive funding under the Maria Skłodowska-Curie action COFUND in Horizon 2020. In the previous edition, funding was awarded to the project Bio4Med of the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology for doctoral studies, as well as to POLONEZ of the National Science Centre, to finance individual grants for experienced researchers in Polish research units. In these two MSCA-COFUND competitions so far Poland has received 10.5 million euros.
Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences has the HR Excellence in Research logo since December 2014. It is a sign of quality research organization and working conditions in the scientific institution. Having the logo is an advantage in applying for funds from Horizon 2020.
