NASA officially confirmed that the IGNIS mission, the first Polish technological and scientific mission to the International Space Station (ISS), would launch in the spring of 2025 - the Ministry of Development and Technology announced last week. The launch will take place no earlier than May.

'As part of this unique mission, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, a Polish ESA (European Space Agency - ed. PAP) project astronaut, will conduct experiments proposed by the Polish space industry. These experiments, developed in cooperation with ESA, will open up access to the unique ISS infrastructure for our companies and scientists', the Ministry of Development and Technology emphasised on X.

'This is a unique opportunity to conduct research that cannot be conducted on Earth', we read in the post.

According to NASA Space Operations, the Axiom 4 (Ax-4) mission, the fourth private mission to the ISS, will no earlier than May of this year from the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida (USA). In addition to Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, the following astronauts will fly to the ISS: Peggy Whitson (USA) - mission commander, Shubhanshu Shukla (India) - mission pilot, and Tibor Kapu (Hungary) - mission specialist.

In February, Jarosław Sulkowski from the Ministry of Development and Technology announced in the Sejm that the Polish technological and scientific mission to the ISS, with the participation of Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, would take place at the turn of June of this year, and would last 16 days.

In turn, the deputy head of the Ministry of Development and Technology, Michał Jaros, assessed that the mission 'will open the way for the Polish economy and companies that will be able to develop in connection with this mission'.

The most important part of the mission will be technological and scientific experiments, which Uznański-Wiśniewski will conduct on the ISS. The Polish astronaut will also carry out shows in space, which will be recorded and then used in an educational program.

The list of experiments is available on the Ministry of Development and Technology website. (PAP)
