The Ax-4 space mission, carrying Polish astronaut Dr. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, has launched from Cape Canaveral. The four-person crew is expected to arrive at the International Space Station (ISS) around 1:00 PM Polish time on Thursday.

Forty-three seconds after liftoff, the Falcon 9 engines shut down. The rocket then passed through the period of maximum dynamic pressure, known as max Q. Shortly after reaching max Q, the vehicle broke the sound barrier. The first stage of the Falcon 9 separated successfully and the booster landed back at Cape Canaveral.

In addition to the Polish astronaut, the Ax-4 mission crew includes veteran NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson (mission commander) from the United States, pilot Shubhanshu Shukla from India, and mission specialist and scientist Tibor Kapu from Hungary.

Dr. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski is the second Pole in space and the first to visit the ISS.
