€ 4050 per month for up to two years, the ability to manage own research project and a series of soft skills development training courses - these are the benefits of the POLONEZ programme for foreign researchers. The new National Science Centre competition will begin in September.

According to the Ministry of Science release sent to PAP, POLONEZ is addressed to researchers coming from abroad, who wish to conduct research at Polish universities, research and scientific institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Applying foreign researchers must hold a doctor\'s degree or have at least four years of research experience in full-time employment. They must also meet one important condition - in the three years prior to the application date they may not have resided, worked or studied in Poland for more than 12 months.

Foreign researchers can apply for a one year or two year fellowship in Polish scientific institutions and receive a monthly gross salary of 4050 euros. "Additionally, they may receive mobility allowance for temporary change of their place of residence - 300 euros gross per month, and in the case of people travelling with families - 300 euros gross family allowance" - announced the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

National Science Centre will transfer to the foreign scientist’s host institution 100 percent funding for a research project led by the winner, and 20 percent overhead. As part of POLONEZ, scientists will also have an opportunity to participate in trainings organized by the National Science Centre.

"We need to attract scientists who conduct research at the highest level. The program will also benefit the Poles who work at foreign universities and wish to return to Poland. We often hear about them wanting to return, but it is accompanied by a concern for their scientific careers - emphasized Minister of Science Prof. Lena Kolarska-Bobińska. - We want to provide the best conditions for scientists to conduct research. Building a social and intellectual capital is the driving force of innovative Polish economy."

Ministry of Science reminded that about a number of system activities and competitions already carried out to promote the mobility of students and researchers, including MOBILITY PLUS and "Studies for the outstanding". Ministry of Science also finalises the work on a program of internationalisation of Polish universities. In the last three years, the number of foreign students in Poland has been growing significantly. Currently there are 46,000 foreigners studying in our country. In part it is the effect of the Ministry’s campaign "Ready, Study, Go! Poland".
