Two adult bears traveling together have been recorded by a video trap on Babia Góra in the Beskids. According to Maciej Mażul of Babia Góra National Park the bear could be Puszek, recently quite often seen in this area, with a female.
Naturalists posted the video of the bears on the Facebook page of the Park. In the night scene you can see the first bear, and after a moment the second animal emerges from darkness. "Puszek with the friend" - naturalists described the video. Bears can be seen at https://www.facebook.com/BabiogorskiParkNarodowy/?fref=ts
"Our expectations could be too high, but we assume that it might be a pair. Two males would be unlikely. We are very happy that the bears are on Babia Góra and we can observe them. So far, visits of these predators were sporadic. Now we have a repeatability of events" - said Mażul.
The bear that naturalists named Puszek, was recorded a few weeks ago by a video trap, when it was strolling at night. Four days ago, a camera caught him during the day. Now he appeared in a duet. "For now, we have little information about the two predators, but we are monitoring the situation. We are extremely excited. Temperatures are high, but here things heated up when it turned out that we recorded two bears" - said Maciej Mażul.
The naturalist can not predict the future of Puszek\'s "romance", but hopes that the bear settles on Babia Góra, and a video trap will record the predators again.
Video traps are placed in hard to reach areas of the Park, away from the tourist trails. Maciej Mażul noted, however, that it is man who is a guest on Babia Góra, not animals. "So it may happen that a bear may come out on the trail, although generally they avoid people" - he added.
The brown bear is the largest predator living in the Polish forests. It weighs up to 250-300 kg. It lives an average of 20-25 years. In Poland it is under full protection.
Babia Góra National Park celebrates its 60th anniversary. Its territory covers the area of the highest mountain of the Beskids - Babia Góra (1725 m above the sea level). In 1977 UNESCO recognized the area a biosphere reserve. The mountain attracts crowds of tourists.
