Chinese students want to learn Polish

Chinese students want to learn Polish because it opens their way to a better job, as announced at the University of Silesia in Katowice press conference dedicated to Polish language course in Shenyang.

Polish language course was launched at the Northeastern University in Shenyang last October. It is taught by the University of Silesia employee Adam Antoniewicz.

In the first semester, 20 Chinese students began studying Polish language and culture, 120 students have already signed up for another semester. "+Why the Polish language?+ - this was one of my first questions to Chinese students. They gave various answers. Students said that the language was interesting, exotic, and opened the way to better jobs and studying in Poland" - said Antoniewicz during the press conference.

He added that the course, which is open to all comers, is attended by students of English, Russian, biology, engineering. "Polish is difficult for Chinese students. One of the biggest problems is the phonetics, because the Chinese have problems with the pronunciation of sounds +h+, +w+, +l+, but after a few weeks I saw a lot of progress. They are keen learners" - said Antoniewicz.

The course launched last year is the result of the cooperation agreement signed between the province of Silesia and the province of Liaoning. Similar document was also signed by the two universities. "In 2010, we were at the Expo in Shanghai looking for a partner who would effectively cooperate with us in terms of both economy and culture. Two years later, in 2012, we signed a cooperation agreement, we decided to focus on culture and economy" - said the director of the department of promotion at Marshal\'s Office in Katowice, Tomasz Stemplewski .

The result of this collaboration is also launching the student exchange system. "In March, three Polish students of English at the University of Silesia who chose Chinese as their specialization, will go to Shenyang on a prestigious Chinese scholarship, and five students from the Northeastern University will come to Katowice" - the university announced.

Northeastern University in Shenyang is a public university founded in 1923, and one of the top universities in China. It educates more than 20 thousand students in 46 undergraduate, 53 master\'s and 23 doctoral programs.
