16 medals, eight gold and eight silver, brought Polish inventors from the ITEX exhibition, organized since 1989 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The exhibition featured more than a thousand inventions from 20 countries, viewed by 12.5 thousand visitors.
Poland presented 16 inventions in Kuala Lumpur, all appreciated by the international jury, which awarded them eight gold and eight silver medals.
Grand Prix of the exhibition and gold medal went to the inventors from Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences for the invention: Geocomposite, especially to support vegetation. The solution can be used in agriculture, horticulture, construction and environmental engineering, as a water retaining material, which allows to stabilize the water balance in the soil. This allows to save water in the cultivation of plants, improves the resistance of plants to drought and increases the growth of the biomass.
Gold medal was also awarded to scientists from the Military Institute of Engineer Technology. During the exhibition, they presented the "Electrochromic device for active adaptive camouflage". The device uses Digital Colour Management System to adjust colour to the surroundings. The colours change smoothly from yellow, light green to dark green. The device can used for military camouflage.
Among the gold-winning inventions was also the "Method of location of the cancer and atherosclerosis with EPRI imaging and application system", prepared by researchers from Poznań University of Technology. EPR Imaging - Electron Paramagnetic Resonance - can provide data about the pharmacokinetics of free radicals and oxygen concentration in the tissues. These are very important indicators in the treatment and detection of cancer. Oncological therapy fails if oxygen concentration is below a certain level.
EPR is one of the most sensitive methods for measuring the oxygen concentration, but the barrier hindering the practical application of EPR tomography is long measurement time. The proposed invention allows to shorten the duration of the measurement with from several minutes to a few seconds, which allows monitoring of oxygenation changes in real time as well as determining the exact location of the tumour lesion.
Gold medals were also awarded to scientists from Częstochowa University of Technology, Cracow University of Technology , Oil and Gas Institute - National Research Institute in Kraków, the Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements and the Wastewater Treatment Plant "Warta" SA in Częstochowa. "Warta" President Rafał Lewandowski was awarded the Cross "Honor of Inventions" for outstanding achievements in the field of innovation.
Two silver medals were given to solutions of scientists from Cracow University of Technology, Oil and Gas Institute - National Research Institute in Cracow, Military University of Technology in Warsaw. One silver medal went to: Lublin University of Technology and the company FLC Pharma.
