Exchange of students and academic staff should be one of the key elements of cooperation between the University of Łódź and universities in Venezuela. The possibility of such cooperation has been discussed during the meeting of representatives of the authorities of the University of Łódź and the Embassy of Venezuela.
"Several years ago we started cooperation with universities in South America. We already have partners in Peru, Argentina and Uruguay. We would like Venezuela to also join this group. We are seeking cooperation especially with regard to student exchange" - Vice-Rector of the University of Łódź for international cooperation, Zofia Wysokińska told reporters after the meeting.
Representatives of the Venezuelan embassy expressed hope that the agreement at the university level would start a much wider cooperation.
"We want to work with professors, exchange students and academic staff. This marks the beginning of closer relations between our nations. We start from the cooperation between universities, because such relations are durable and reliable, and they can be the perfect start to strengthen the ties between our peoples" - told reporters Adriana Gottber Gil from the Embassy of Venezuela.
She emphasised that the work of universities is not limited to transferring knowledge, but also involves creating a citizen - a citizen of the world. That is why, in her opinion, this type of agreements can be very beneficial for both parties. Gil added that the people of Venezuela know a lot about Poland, and especially about Łódź.
"This city is interesting because here trains and lives of our excellent fencer, Olympic champion Ruben Limardo. Łódź is very dear to us and the opportunity to study in this city will certainly be attractive for many people in our country" - said Gil.
Guests from Venezuela at the University of Łódź will be able benefit from launching this year, special two-year program of study in Spanish, offered jointly by the faculties of international studies and economy and sociology. The program that explores broad social and economic issues allows to obtain a diploma in international relations. The university also has a wide range of studies in English.
University of Łódź already cooperates with more than 190 universities and institutes around the world. Most partnership agreements have been signed with Russia (19), Ukraine (18), France, China and the United States (16 with each), Kazakhstan (11) and Germany (8).
In Venezuela, education is free. This also applies to undergraduate and graduate studies. 75 percent of all students in the country study at the state universities.
