IATA certificates for the English-language Aviation Management students

Students of Poland\'s only English-language Aviation Management specialisation at the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow can take part in the prestigious IATA training and obtain IATA certificates.

Students have this opportunity thanks to the project "Career Logistics" implemented by the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow. The university was one of the 40 universities in the country and the only in Podkarpacie that won a nearly 600 thousand zlotys National Centre for Research and Development grant for the project.

Szymon Taranda from the university press office told PAP that the implementation of the project will allow students of elite English-language Aviation Management studies to expand the scope of their competences.

"A key element of the project is the opportunity to participate in training and obtain IATA certificate. Students will be eligible to take IATA Ground Operations Management or IATA Cargo Introductory Course. Certificates issued by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) are the documents recognized worldwide that confirm the air transport sector employees\' competence" - said Taranda.

He added that the commercial cost of such training course is approx. 8 thousand zlotys, and the students of Rzeszów university will take it free of charge.

The project "Career Logistics" will be implemented for two consecutive years, the best 40 students of Aviation Management will qualify to participate. The criteria will include grade average and involvement extracurricular activities.

The project also includes an optional trip to international airports for students. They will visit the airport Frankfurt-Hahn and the European sorting centre of one of the courier companies, which is located at the airport in Cologne.

In addition, students will have the opportunity to also improve their language and computer skills.

"They will take part in the specialized aviation English language course and learn to use project management software" - noted Taranda.

In addition, the project participants will learn the secrets of the daily work of aviation managers, meet with experts from airlines, airports and the Civil Aviation Authority.

Aviation Management is a economics major specialisation launched at the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow in October 2010. It is the only such specialisation in Poland and one of few in Europe. Classes are taught in English. The course lasts six semesters. Lufthansa is a commercial partner if the studies.

An important element of this course are practical classes taught by international aviation industry experts, as well as internships at airlines.

Students learn to independent prepare analyses, solve the economic problems of aviation enterprises, organizations and institutions. They work, among others, on an airline manager work simulator, learn to use a program that simulates the work of airports - ARCPort.

Aviation Management also gives students an opportunity to participate in the surveys conducted for the aviation sector, specialist seminars and conferences, and international contacts to help students shape their careers.

Graduates of this specialisation have the chance to work for the airline industry almost all over the world, for example in different departments at airports, as well as in companies that charter planes or are involved in air transport of goods.

The University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow was established in 1996. Approx. six thousand students study 21 majors (more than 70 specialisation), including seven courses taught in English. They have access to more than 70 modern laboratories.
