In October, 80 winners of the third edition of Top 500 Innovators will leave for two-month internships at some of the best universities in the world: Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley, U.S.

Prof. Maria Elżbieta Orłowska, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education met with the winners in Warsaw. Together with John P Schutte, Political-Economic Councelor at the United States to Poland, U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, she handed DS-2019 forms to young researchers.

"The Top 500 programme is a proof that we consistently invest in Polish science and people who want to change it" - said Prof. Orłowska. Last year\'s winner, Dr. dr Małgorzata Kęsik-Brodacka said that graduates of the programme work in the Polish-American Innovation Hub and collaborate with centers in Silicon Valley. The Innovation Hub was launched in Palo Alto, the heart of Silicon Valley. Its goal is to be an accelerator for young Polish companies in gaining position on global market.

"It was their initiative to open in Poland the Plug and Play Techcenter representation, which is looking for innovative start-ups in the field of ICT, interested in moving to Silicon Valley and participation in the Plug and Play programme addressed to companies from outside the United States" - added Kęsik-Brodacka.

40 young scientists will begin internships at the Center for Executive Education at the University of California at Berkeley on October 7. Two weeks later, the second group of 40 40 winners will start internships at Stanford University.

In total, 495 candidates from universities, research institutes, institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and technology transfer centres from across Poland competed for places in the third edition of the government competition. 160 finalists have been selected. 80 of them have completed internships at Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley in spring 2013.
