The University of Warsaw has taken over the presidency of the 4EU+ Alliance, a group of eight European universities where students, doctopral candidates and academics can exchange experiences.
The members of the Alliance are: the University of Warsaw, Charles University in Prague, Germany’s Heidelberg University, Paris-Panthéon-Assas University, Sorbonne University, University of Copenhagen, University of Geneva and University of Milan.
The presidency within the Alliance is transitional and lasts one year.
The 4EU+ Alliance is formed by eight research universities that together build one European University. It is one of the most important strategic initiatives of the University of Warsaw. The Alliance allows members to develop a joint educational, research, digital and mobility infrastructure. Over 300,000 students, nearly 30,000 doctoral candidates and over 50,000 employees from Warsaw, Prague, Copenhagen, Heidelberg, Paris, Milan and Geneva have the opportunity to exchange experiences, carry out joint research and conduct innovative educational projects. In total, over 240 inter-university projects have been launched in the Alliance so far.
During the 4EU+ Alliance Annual Meeting, the member universities discussed progress in the implementation of flagship programmes and issues related to educational projects, mobility, communication and digitisation. 'In line with the motto of this year's conference: +Digital 4EU+: Education - Research - Cooperation+, participants address topics such as the application of digital solutions in education and science, including AI', the University of Warsaw’s press release says.
According to the University of Warsaw, the cooperation within the Alliance embraces the creation of common educational frameworks and innovative educational offers, joint research projects carried out by inter-university, multidisciplinary research teams, initiatives related to innovation, technology transfer and the social responsibility of universities.
In 2019, the Alliance was awarded the European University status in the European Commission's pilot 'European Universities' call for proposals, launched as part of the Erasmus+ programme. The 4EU+ consortium was among 17 university alliances that received funding.
In 2022, one of the 4EU+ Alliance projects received funding in the next 'European Universities' call for proposals. The assumptions include the preparation of an interdisciplinary educational offer, innovative research-based education, intensification of physical and virtual mobility, as well as development of a new joint digital infrastructure.
