Chains on mountain hiking trails can be made of modified plastic instead of steel, which conducts electricity during storms. Scientists are working on a composite for use not only in the Tatra Mountains and the Karkonosze Mountains, but also in civil engineering, maritime transport and mining.
Małgorzata Lisowska captured her own cancer cells that form the shape of a heart in a microscopic photo. The photograph won 3rd place in the Nikon Small World competition. The artist, suffering from breast cancer, will sell the award-winning work and use the proceeds for further oncological treatment.
Karolina Rorat and Ewa Maniak, students of the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology, took second place in the international competition 'Portugal Olive Guest House' and won the Buildner Student Award. The jury appreciated their project of an olive guesthouse in Portugal.
